Should you attach a handle or knob on a sink cabinet false drawer front? Throughout the years, I have had many customers ask me to attach a hardware pull on the decorative drawer face of the kitchen sink cabinetry.

This is not the standard practice of the majority of cupboard manufactures. In all actuality, I do not think I have ever seen a store bought cupboard that had a decorative hardware piece on this area.

Unless a sink cabinet has a tilt out face, like the one in the picture, it will not come equipped with any hardware installed.

This particular item being attached to the front or being left off is going to really be a matter of personal preference.
I would only suggest that if you are going to attach a knob in this area that you make sure it is tightened really well. You may even want to put a small amount of caulking adhesive on the threads of the screw so that it cannot come loose.
If you are going to use a handle, adhesive will not be necessary because the screws will not come loose. The handle has two screws and therefore it cannot become loose.

Here’s a potential problem, if you are using a plastic knob it may be in danger of breaking off if someone bumps it. The same thing may happen if it is a plastic handle. If this ever happens it may not be easy to replace, depending upon the style of cabinetry that you have.

One reason that it may be difficult to fix a broken knob or handle is because the sink is going to be in the way of being able to get a screw driver in the area.

Some manufacturing companies make the sink blind behind the false drawer front out of a solid piece of wood. If the knob or handle is attached to the sink cabinet’s false front first and then screwed to the solid sink blind, the false drawer face will have to be removed if the handle or knob gets broken or comes lose.

Really, the only time that a knob or handle is a mandatory item to be installed on the false front of the kitchen sink cabinet is when a tilt out sink tray is installed. The hardware is necessary in order to tilt the false front out.
