How To Draw Mount Rushmore: All Steps

In this lesson, we will start off with a blank piece of paper and learn how to draw Mount Rushmore in a series of 9 steps. We will proportion out the proportions of each of the drawn parts of the Mount Rushmore.

Time Needed: 30 minutes

  1. First Form George Washington’s Face

    Start by drawing a curved line for the face. Next, outline the shape of the hair. Then, form the face by first drawing the eyes. Add curved lines above the eyes for the eyebrows. Draw a wavy line for the nose and a line curving downwards for the mouth.

  2. Outline The Collar

    Outline the collar of George Washington’s coat by drawing two triangular shapes.

  3. Next Draw Thomas Jefferson’s Face

    Next, outline Thomas Jefferson’s face by drawing a curved line. Now, form the wavy shape of his hair. Then, draw his eyes and pointed nose as shown. Draw a slight smile and a curved line on his cheek.

  4. Now Add Theodore Roosevelt’s Face

    Start by making an outline of Theodore Roosevelt’s head. Now, form the shape of his hair and prominent mustache. Then, draw his eyes and nose similar to the illustration.

  5. Then Form Abraham Lincoln’s Face

    First, draw a diagonal line to outline Abraham Lincoln’s face. Next, draw the shape of his hair and beard. Then, form his serious looking face.

  6. Add The Raised Collar

    Form the shape of the raised collar around Abraham Lincoln’s head..

  7. Outline The Mountain

    Outline the top of the mountain by drawing a wavy horizontal line.

  8. Add Texture

    Add a rough texture to the surface of the mountain by drawing short wavy lines.

  9. Complete The Mount Rushmore Drawing

    Let’s give some personality to our drawing of Mount Rushmore by adding some color! First, use shades of orange to color the mountain. Add some shading to the edges to form the shadows. Then, fill the sky with a vibrant blue crayon.
