A drawing room design is usually the first space that creates an impression about its owners…a teaser for the rest of the space. The design of the drawing room sets the mood and the style of the house, reflecting one’s personality. It gives you an idea of their taste, their age group, their interests and even their lifestyle…a perfect reflection of the characteristics of its occupants.
Neutrals with subtle pops of colour go a long way in designing living rooms.
If you like luxury at its finest, this drawing room design speaks volumes.
Drawing rooms are more formal while living rooms are informal…In India however, especially in cities with smaller apartments, drawing and living rooms become one space… used for formal, dining as well as informal entertainment, and more.
A typical drawing room is usually a formal set-up for the family to gather.
An abundance of natural light floods this drawing room.
The main feature of a drawing room design is the seating arrangement. This is decided on the basis of the number of people occupying it on a daily basis and how to accommodate guests. Stylish, yet comfortable seating goes a long way in making the room look welcoming. It is important not to clutter the design of the drawing room with different styles. The design style, of course, would reflect the client’s personality, but it is best that it is kept simple and not diluted with too many elements. The aesthetics of the furniture are not all that matters. The actual ergonomics of the living room furniture is extremely important and is sometimes overlooked in trying to style the space.
The use of colours and materials reflects the personalities of the room’s occupants.
Smart and efficient lighting is another integral factor that helps in creating different moods for different purposes. Indirect lighting for cozy get-togethers, chandeliers for formal gatherings, and bright lights for fun and games…all of these can be incorporated into one room to help create the right ambiance for the right purpose. An interesting light fixture or a dramatic sculpture piece, such as a coffee table is all that is needed to give your drawing room design that oomph factor. Having a piece de resistance is an additional way to introduce a conversation starter that could make for great evenings in good company.
Be it natural or decorative, lighting is an integral element in a drawing room design.

Fifty-two Raheja Imperia
Each room inside the apartment exhibits a different story while maintaining the continuity of the grey marble floor and gold accents in the ceiling, wardrobes and wall panels. The living room looks stunning with its large matte gold TV wall which is then flanked by back-lit Patagonia marble. The colour palette for the seating is in neutral tones accentuated by blush pink and blue, creating an interesting visual as you enter the living room. Apart from the stunning TV wall, there are two more eclectic pieces – one is the center table and the other two are coffee tables flanking the main sofa. The center table is in the shape of an inverted trapezoid with a fluidic pattern of Patagonia covering the top and sides. The coffee tables are unusual and attractive in terms of both, shape and colour. Each one is an inverted pyramid, resting within a gold metal frame. They are coated with fluidic marble art in contrasting colours of blue, grey and rust. The tip of the pyramid is covered in a gold metal cone to accentuate it.
Blue armchairs in the otherwise neutral aesthetic brings a vibrancy to this home.
A perfect example of a drawing room with a dining area for city apartments.
Bijoux residence
The client loved the color shade of pastel blue and that was the driving element of the palette selection. The Armani Grey marble floor, the Santuario backdrop with brass inserts, and a dash of concrete texture with a lot of Mid-Century accents formed the design of the drawing room. The ceiling also sports a dash of the concrete texture with a very interesting light fixture in gold metal and diamond-shaped crystals framed in a veneer finish frame.
The double-heighted ceiling gives this drawing room a larger-than-life aesthetic.
A birds-eye view of the drawing room showcases its true grandeur.
Maroon cushions give a refreshing colour addition to this drawing room.
Hillcrest
The living room is centrally located and has a double height, creating a perfect picture frame of the stunning vista of the Khandala valley. Wood paneling has been used in an interesting panel design in the living room. Furthermore, the vista of the valley is captured by a picture frame window in the living room. Comparatively opulent, this drawing room design takes its inspiration from understated luxury with a special interest in making the space welcoming and cozy for its residents.
Browns and beiges make a wonderfully serene scheme for this drawing room.
Always make use of fenestrations just like GA Design has done in this home for bringing in natural light.
House of hues
As there is a lot of natural light which filters in through the day, we decided that every room in the house would be styled around a particular hue. It is a painstaking product of trial and error, and a testament to the magnetism of colour done right. A rich, textured red dominates the drawing room, complimented by a set of mustard yellow chesterfield sofas upholstered in velvet and a mid-century armchair in bright red.
Living up to its name, the drawing room in ‘House of Hues’ is truly a showcase of an eclectic palette.
Accessorizing is key… as you can see in this stunning drawing room.
If used properly, a mélange of bright colors in a drawing room can spruce up your mood after a stressful day.
Infinity House
As you enter the drawing room, you are faced with a panoramic view of Khandala, and a stunning infinity pool in the foreground. The drawing room design, especially because of the glass screen, seems virtually open. The language of the drawing room design is contemporary with a white and grey palette. As you walk to the space, you are faced by a wood and glass screen wall, which serves as a semi-transparent partition between the living and the passage area.
Open and airy, your drawing room should be ventilated and functional, along with being attractive.

Champagne House
For the drawing room design, the clients were very clear that it had to be large and spacious, as they entertain a lot and frequently have friends and family over. So, the space had to have two sets of seating areas. One, the formal seating with the TV unit, and the other, a casual space along with the dining. A complete glass building with a floor-to-ceiling glass façade, one experiences a surreal feel as they enter the drawing room. Full of natural light, the plan is long and rectangular, functional to the tee. The idea was to keep the windows as open as possible with minimum interruptions of walls and solid partitions. Gold symbolizes luxury and opulence, so accents in gold have been used tastefully throughout the house in combination with veneer and fabric.

Absolutely mesmerizing, the combination of the tan sofa against a floral wallpaper has our heart!
AB residence
A lovely soft amazing grey marble floor forms the perfect canvas for a minimalist and contemporary design. Custom-made furniture pieces in solid wood add warmth and richness to the entire area. The drawing room upholstery adds the required dash of colour to the otherwise soft palette of the entire décor.
A tasteful combination of furniture, furnishings, accessories and artworks displays a rich aesthetic in this home.
Duplex at Nepeansea
Sprawling across 5,000 sqft and spread over two floors, this entire drawing room design was dedicated to soaking in the stunning vistas of the Arabian Sea. The room also has a small bar area carved out from the adjoining guest room, which can be concealed when not in use with frosted sliding glass shutters. Wood and veneer paneling in the drawing room that serves as a TV backdrop, has an interesting pattern but at the same time, part of it is a concealed shutter that houses all the electrical controls of that area. The use of materials is varied but the color palette of the soft furnishings is subtle so as to complement the materials used on the fixed surfaces.
