Biography[]
Becoming Spider-Woman[]
Gwen Stacy is a daughter of a police officer named George Stacy and best friends with Peter Parker. Along with her other friends Mary Jane Watson and Betty Brant they formed a rock band called The Mary Janes. Gwen was the drummer for The Mary Janes.
At some point Gwen was bit by a radioactive spider and gained spider powers. Using her powers to fight crime Gwen became the costumes crime fighter called Spider-Woman. As Spider-Woman, Gwen was able to save her father from being shot and killed by a criminal.
Somehow Peter was transformed into a mindless lizard creature and Spider-Woman had to fight him. Peter unfortunately was killed during their battle.
Super Collider Incident[]
When the Super Collider exploded this created a portal. While Spider-Woman was fighting Doctor Octopus, she was sucked into the portal which brought her to another dimension.
After arriving in a new dimension Gwen enrolled in Visions Academy because her spider-sense was drawing her there. There she met Miles Morales. However, she introduced herself to him using the alias Wanda. Miles tried to flirt with Gwen. However, at the time his powers were just developing and he he couldn’t control them. Miles’ new spider powers caused his hand to stick to Gwen’s hair. Gwen and Miles ended up having to go to the nurse who shaved part of Gwen’s head to get Miles unstuck. Unknown to Gwen at the time Miles had just recently developed spider powers and that is what her spider-sense was detecting.
Later, Gwen, in her Spider-Woman costume, rescued Miles and Peter Parker from Doctor Octopus. Spider-Woman took off her mask revealing herself to Miles to be “Wanda”. However, she tells Miles that her real name is Gwen Stacy.
Later, Peter, Miles, and Gwen go to May Parker’s house and asked to use her Peter’s laboratory unaware that her Peter actually had a secret cave beneath her house. In the Spider Cave, Miles, Peter, and Gwen met other spider people that were brought to their dimension when the Super Collider exploded. They were Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and Spider-Ham. However, the other Spider people believed that Miles would not be able to help them since he was so inexperienced.
Miles returned to Aunt May’s house and frantically informed Gwen and the Spider-Gang that the Prowler was really his Uncle Aaron. However, Miles was followed and they were attacked by Prowler, Doctor Octopus, Tombstone and Scorpion. Gwen and the Spider-Gang fought the supervillains and tried to keep the override key away from them.
Later, just as Spider-Woman and the Spider-Gang got to Kingpin’s base with the override key, Kingpin had just activated the Super Collider. Miles then used the override key on the Super Collider which allowed Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Peni, and Spider-Ham to return home.
Background[]
Gwen is voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. Daniela Melchior voiced the character in the Portuguese dubbing of the film.
The first film version to feature Gwen Stacy as Spider-Woman.
In the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Gwen is redesigned slightly from her appearance in the first film. Tennis shoes have replaced her ballet slippers, and having Gwen Poole’s partially dyed pink highlights added to her blonde undercut hair, a design previously adapted to versions of the character in the Marvel Rising media franchise and the Disney Junior children’s television series Spidey and His Amazing Friends.
Lauren Montgomery is in negotiations to direct the spinoff with Bek Smith writing. The initial report only revealed about the planned spinoff was that it would feature an all-female team. It was later revealed that the spinoff would focus on Gwen teaming up with Cindy Moon/Silk, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman who all star in the comic series Spider-Women. Amy Pascal noted they are also trying to get a Silk live-action film made but noted that the differences between the two portrayals would be like Doctor Octopus in this film and Alfred Molina in Spider-Man 2.
Pascal said, “I think it’s great that we’re going to be able to tell movies about female superheroes in this realm, and in the live-action realm as well, because I believe that there are going to be characters that really resonate for people. They’re funny and quirky and different, and heroic in all kinds of different ways that only animation allows you to do.”
